Reflection: Tell Me Something Good

Thursday May 05th, 2011 / 00:12 Written by

Last night, I had dinner with one of my best friends and shortly after we started our meal, he said “Tell me something good”.

I immediately shared my excitement about my newest Finding the B-Side interview (coming soon), which led to a discussion about the Monday Mix. I explained some of the steps I take to prepare the playlist and before I knew it, I was talking about my relationship with God. I like to think about gospel music as representing good news. While I enjoy all the songs I select for the Monday Mix, the gospel segment is always especially important to me, because those songs are usually relevant to how I feel at the moment. I told my buddy that I typically choose the four gospel songs last, after I’ve taken time to think about the week’s events. I even admitted that I knew Tamela Mann’s Hallelujah was good for this week’s playlist because as I listened to it, I thought about how blessed I am and tears of joy streamed down my cheeks. That has happened to me with more Monday Mix playlists than I can count.

After lots of food, laughs, and a couple games of chess (which I lost miserably), my friend suggested that I periodically share some of the thought processes that influence my posts. So, every once in a while I’ll give you a personal reflection with a connection to music.

Although I thought about adding the popular Rufus & Chaka Khan song to this post, today I’m still reflecting on my appreciation for God, who is more than good to me. Hallelujah.
