Have you heard Myra Smith sing? Imagine exceptionally polished vocals, wrapped in a soulfully smooth vibe and sprinkled with a jazzy gospel flavor. Such a high level of artistry may be difficult for some artists to deliver, but Myra is more than capable. She has been singing since the age of four, and has developed her style and timbre through a very impressive list of opportunities. She has opened for such artists as Donald Lawrence, Byron Cage, Ted and Sherri, Evelyn “Champagne” King, Roy Ayers, Eric Roberson, Ndambi, Jill Scott and Miki Howard and she has been a background vocalist for Jean Carne, Ted Wynn and Grammy-award winner Keli Nicole. Myra also performed in four stage plays (My God Your God, God Blocked It, Her First Love, and Women Who Wear Blue Genes).
Myra started her own band in August 2009 called the Myra Smith Experience and is working on her first solo project. Myra is also the lead singer for jazz great Jae Sinnett’s group House and Sinnett. They plan to release their first project next month called Old School Loyalties. As we wait for those projects, have your first Myra Smith experience by listening to My Funny Valentine and Sing to Me below.
