CD of the Week – Purpose by Algebra

When was the last time you purchased a cd and all of the songs had lyrics you could relate to? Well, if it has been a long time, let me introduce you to a cd that I described to one of my friends as “refreshingly relatable”. Algebra Blessett’s debut cd, entitled Purpose, is unique because the songs approach love, relationships, and a few other topics from a variety of perspectives, all thoroughly conveyed in her lyrics. Algebra sings and plays the guitar on the album and I’m sure that after the first few songs, you’ll find her music hard to stop listening to.

Although Purpose was released in February 2008, Algebra was recording songs long before that. You can hear her sing She Was Just a Friend, a song she recorded with Anthony Hamilton for Miri Ben Ari’s cd, entitled The Hip Hop Violinist.

Check out Algebra on Youtube and Dailymotion also and you’ll see that she’s as good in concert as she is on her album. Here’s a clip of her covering Nina Simone’s Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood.

So, take a listen to Algebra Blessett this week. I really think you’ll enjoy her music. Let me know if she gives you several relatable songs. I have no doubts that she will.
